Huge Sterling Silver Tibetan or Nepalese Coral Cabochon Pendant

$333.00
This pendant is a bit of a mystery! But regardless, it is truly stunning! The way it's constructed (the way the coral cabochons have been set, the silverwork and wire work) make me think that this is a Tibetan piece, but it also reminds me of Nepali and Moroccan pieces I have seen. The figures depicted in the silverwork (men with wings) may be depictions of Tibetan garuda, a creature in Buddhist and Hindu mythology which is a protector. However, these figures look quite different from other garuda I've seen (the only commonality is that they have a human face, and winged body). Regardless, this is an incredible piece, which natural, orange-red coral cabochons. It is incredibly large and heavy, and made from high purity silver. It tests as better than 925, so it may be 950 or even 999 solid silver.

The pendant measures 8.4 cm x 9 cm (including the bail). The shape of the bail makes me think that this is quite an early piece, possibly made in the early part of the 20th century (or earlier). It weights 65.34 grams in total. It is quite oxidized, but otherwise in excellent condition.
